Geo-data, Geo-Software and Geo-Service for Education and Research
GeoDesk is the place to go for all students and employees of Wageningen UR with questions and wishes regarding geo-data and geo-software.
GeoDesk is a service unit within the Geo-Information Centre. We exist to channel the availability of geo-data and geo-software, to help users on their way and to consult them. Examples of geo-data sets that we could provide to users are: detailed topography of the Netherlands, and the AHN terrain elevation grid. We have a multitude of Dutch datasets available, and international ones as well.
Users may ask questions on how to apply geo-software, or they want to know which datasets are available and how to get them. GeoDesk could answer that, or even help to connect the geo-tools with their field of expertise.
GeoDesk is not only there for those who ask, but also for those who have datasets to offer. If research results in a geographical dataset that deserves general availability, than GeoDesk can be shopping window and retailer. Products may be made available as geo-datasets, like the Dutch Landuse map LGN, the Dutch Soilmap, or Dutch Geomorphology. Alternatively, datasets can be displayed through webservices, like the aerial photographs of the Netherlands.

A class on their own is formed by the digital scans we have available of historical maps, e.g. the topographical map of the Netherlands around 1850 ("TMK"). GeoDesk also has scans of the precursor of the present Topographical Map of the Netherlands ("Bonne"-sheets).
For the community of geo-users within Wageningen UR, GeoDesk organizes courses on geo-software and lunch lectures. Besides , GeoDesk participates in the forum on the Platform GIS website. This is a meeting place for all of Wageningen UR to ask geo-questions and post tips.
