Introduction

One of the aims of the special interest group on spatial data quality is the development of modelling techniques to visualise and quantify error and uncertainty in spatial datasets, particularly those related to environmental data like land cover, elevation, soil type, etc.

More specifically our attention goes to the following issues:

  • Methods for assessing accuracy of spatial datasets
  • Quantification of spatial variability in the accuracy of spatial datasets
  • Development of error models for spatial data using geostatistical techniques
  • Generation of multiple map realisations using these error models
  • Application of these map realisations in determining the effect of errors in spatial data in real-world situations using case-studies.
