Abstract:

INTWIS is a state-of-the-art information system that is used by a large number of water boards in The Netherlands. It provides the water manager with a database for the storage of the information, and the tools to analyse and present the data in the database. INTWIS has a modular architecture and is developed on ESRI ArcGIS 9 and Oracle.

Some changes are necessary around the computer system INTWIS, by the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD),. The current application is not fully equipped to support the water manager in the task to select goals and measures to improve the ecological water quality. This is why I developed a prototype called WIM (Water Improvement Measures), together with a water board.

The prototype consists of a database with measures and countermeasures which have an effect on the ecological water quality.
In the first screen the user selects all the measures, which had a negative effect on water quality in the past.
In the second screen the user selects all the countermeasures which improve the negative effect of the measures mentioned above.

Finally it will calculate the possible outcome of achieving the good status in 2015. The results will be shown in a graphic.
