Large Aerial photos (3 by 4 metres) in Palace of Culture and Science (Warsaw)
In the Palace of Culture and Science – PKiN- (Warsaw) you could feel like a giant and walk over some parts of Warsaw centre. In the week of the 3rd of April until the 8th some huge aerial photos of the city’s ‘old ‘ centre and of the surroundings of the Palace of Culture and Science are presented as a carpet.
These aerial photos are exposed to bring a quiz to everybody’s attention. The quiz can be conducted via computers which are located near the lounge of PKiN The visitors of this Quiz will be asked about some locations of Warsaw.
The quiz is part of a thesis project of Gosia Milos that focuses on orientation in 3D geo-visualisation of a Warsawian neighborhood. The greater the number of visitors that will quiz, the more important the results will be for her thesis work.
The thesis project is linked to the EU-Interreg project on Participatory Spatial Planning in Europe (PSPE) which is, amongst other partners, run by the Centre for Geo-information of Wageningen University. The project investigates the use of virtual worlds (3D geo-visualisation) to support public participation and collaboration considering spatial transformations of the environment ( new housing, reallocation of land use, change of landscape features, etc.)
The large aerial photos are results of a unique cooperation between the Palace of Culture and Science (PKiN), Wageningen University, GRID UNEP Poland, MGGP Aero Sp. Poland, Arcadis Poland and the City council of Warsaw.
The project shows the state-of-art in Geo-Information Technology that can be offered to society. We cordially invite you to visit the quiz.
