From 15-19 September 2008 Wageningen UR organizes with partners a summer school on ‘Earth Science and Applications using Imaging Spectroscopy’. The HYPER-I-NET Summer School is primarily open to PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, but also to other advanced researchers interested in imaging spectroscopy. A PE&RC day on ‘Scaling from Molecules to Ecosystems’ will kick off the summer school. This day is open to everyone.

The Marie Curie Research Training Network on Hyperspectral Imaging, funded under the FP6 program of the European Commission, is organizing the 2nd HYPER-I-NET Summer School on Earth Science and Applications using Imaging Spectroscopy, in collaboration with EC, CGI, the C.T. de Wit Graduate School PE&RC and the Ruimte voor Geo-Informatie research program. Location: Wageningen Campus. The 2nd HYPER-I-NET Summer School is contributing to knowledge transfer and improved cooperation within and beyond the network, with a view to promote interdisciplinary approaches.

The program includes the following issues:

  • insights into spatio-temporal plant physiological processes at the leaf, canopy and ecosystem level,
  • observation of fluorescence in situ and from space and what it can do for us,
  • examples of using imaging spectroscopy for land degradation studies, primary production estimation and air and water quality assessments,
  • how to deal with time series of remote sensing observations,
global earth observation in support of climate research and societal needs,
  • learning about future programs of the EU and the European Science Foundation relevant to earth scientists,
  • meeting experts from various fields, including physiologists, biologists, ecologists, earth scientists and remote sensors.

The program will include talks by experts from various fields, both in- and outside the remote sensing community, a Dutch PhD defense, an excursion and hands-on training. There will be ample time for questions and discussions with the experts. All lecture material will be distributed after the summer school. Please note that the summer school is limited to 60 participants. Therefore, registration does not guarantee a place until you receive confirmation of your participation. All applications should include a letter of motivation. The kick-off day on scaling is open to everyone but participation also requires registration.
