The MSc Geo-Information Science student Arjen Koekoek won the Student Paper Competition during teh annual URISA congress in New Orleans, US.
His paper entitled THE POTENTIAL OF E-PARTICIPATION AS PLANNING SUPPORT SYSTEM, a result of his MSc thesis work, scored best in the annual student paper competition of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA).
URISA is considered to be the premier organization for the use and integration of spatial information technology to improve the quality of life in urban and regional enviroments.
His paper discusses the use of interactive webbased geo-visualisation applications to support participative spatial planning (PPS). He presents practices and options of Dutch municipalities in general and focuses on three important guiding examples. These examples offer 3D visualisation, interaction and some levels of decision. The examples are discussed with the policymakers and technology providers to find what future options may be and which obstacles have to overcome.
Arjen has been supervised by Ron van Lammeren (ESG-CGI-GRS) and Guido Vonk (ESG-CGI-Alterra).
